She was called the 'Leningrad Madonna' and honored, in the words of Daniil Granin, 'as one honors the blessed, the saints.' However, Olga Berggolts is a poet not only of civil issues but also of immense lyrical strength. Her personal story was tragic: she lost loved ones more than once, endured the death of children, war, and the shattering of faith in revolutionary ideals...
