1944, Budapest. On an autumn evening in a small tavern, four old friends – a watchmaker, a bookseller, a carpenter, and the tavern owner – spend time over a carafe of homemade wine and conversations about life's trivialities. Outside the... tavern – a curfew and the rampant terror of the Arrow Cross, inside – a haven of stability and calm. The friends console themselves with the thought that, being insignificant people, they cannot influence anything anyway. Moreover, they have no regrets, their conscience is clear.…In just twenty-four hours, all four will face the most difficult choice possible – when preserving human dignity will only be possible at the cost of their lives.
