The most comprehensive guide to traditional Russian holidays: from those we celebrate to this day to those that have long been forgotten and undeservedly so.
The book is based on two works from the late 19th century: "Folk Holidays in Holy... Rus" by Nikolai Stepanov and "Unclean, Unknown, and Cross Power" by Sergey Maximov. These two works, for the first time combined in one edition, provide a complete and detailed picture of the universe of Russian holidays and the traditions, rituals, and superstitions associated with them. From the main dates in the Russian calendar - Christmas, Maslenitsa, Easter, Trinity - to Beekeeping Day and Horse Day, Kuzminki, Ospozhinki, and Semik.
The edition is illustrated with the works of Russian painters - Boris Kustodiev, Karl Briullov, Konstantin Makovsky, Pyotr Sukhodolsky - as well as rare greeting cards from the early 20th century.
