According to contemporary reviews, Ivan Shmelev became the «most Russian» of the émigré writers, who articulated all the «deep truth» about Russia, creating a purified from coincidences, beautiful and bright image, filled with higher meaning and faith. The writer was nominated twice for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
