Louis Antioche, a young philosopher-scientist, receives an unusual offer from a friend of his adoptive parents, the renowned Swiss ornithologist Böhm: to track the migration path of storks and attempt to find out why several hundred ringed birds did not return to Europe, to their native nests. On the eve of his departure, Louis finds Böhm dead. The circumstances of the ornithologist's death are, to put it mildly, suspicious, and he decides, despite everything, to embark on the planned journey. Within a few days, Louis realizes that his trip is a very risky undertaking.
