City of Eternal Night

New York is shaken by a series of brutal murders marked by the same signature. The press claims that the killer is a moralist sending a message to society. A whole team of detectives is brought in to investigate, led... by Lieutenant Vincent d'Agosta, with the participation of FBI Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast. The investigation unsuccessfully tries to establish a connection between the victims, but they are so far apart that it's hard to imagine a common motive for the murders. The truth is that all these people were "incredibly wealthy" and "scandalously corrupt." And each had their head cut off... "I have never encountered a case that resisted analysis so much," Pendergast asserts. Has he really been faced with an opponent whose intellectual superiority is undeniable for the first time?
