Gone with the Wind

The novel by Margaret Mitchell was published in 1936 and had phenomenal success with readers. In the first years alone, its circulation exceeded three million, and «Gone with the Wind» was recognized as the «book of the century». In 1939, a film of the same name (starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable) was released, which won eight Academy Awards and became one of the highest-grossing films in the history of cinema. Despite polarizing assessments from literary critics, the novel received the prestigious Pulitzer Prize, was compared to «War and Peace» by Leo Tolstoy, and Margaret Mitchell was placed alongside the great classics of world literature. The book has survived more than 70 editions just in the United States, has been translated into dozens of languages, and still enjoys unchanging popularity and love from readers around the world.
