The Lady of the Camellias

The novel by Dumas fils "The Lady of the Camellias" was first published in 1848; it immediately became extraordinarily popular. This work has been adapted for film multiple times, and the novel served as the basis for the opera "La Traviata". The prototype for the main character of this drama was Marie Duplessis — the beloved of Dumas, who died of tuberculosis at the age of 23. In this edition, illustrated with watercolor drawings by the French artist Georges Jordic-Pinion, the text of the novel is preceded by a preface from the famous critic and journalist of the 19th century, Jules Janin.
