The children of the Grace family, of course, guessed that the forced move from their New York apartment to the rural mansion of their cousin grandmother would change their lives.

But they had no idea how astounding these changes would be. The decrepit old house greeted the new tenants unwelcomely, and on the very first night, the kids discovered a mysterious hiding place in the wall. Then they found a real secret room, where eighty years ago Arthur Spiderwick, the former owner of the estate, hid an astonishing book. When they opened it, the children learned that nearby – no, not just nearby, right here in this very house! – live creatures that the whole world considers a figment of old fairy tales.
