A Series of Unfortunate Events. Volume 1. The Bad Beginning

Dear reader, think again! Maybe you shouldn’t peek under the cover of Lemony Snicket’s book? After all, you won’t find cheerful and carefree tales within. On the contrary: you and the young heroes of the stories, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny... Baudelaire, will encounter all thirty-three misfortunes. One unremarkable, yet very tragic day, the children learn that their parents have died. There are plenty of people willing to take the orphans in, but the most dreadful among them is the cynical villain Count Olaf. He pursues the Baudelaires wherever they go. Trouble rains down on the children like confetti from a party popper. And only the strength of spirit and mutual help enable Violet, Klaus, and Sunny to repeatedly escape from their predicaments.
These darkly humorous stories about the adventures of the Baudelaire children have become so popular worldwide that they inspired the film “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” featuring Jim Carrey, Jude Law, and Meryl Streep. Just recently, “Netflix” also produced a television series of the same name. The main roles in it were played by Neil Patrick Harris, Malina Weissman, and Louis Hynes.
The first volume, “The Bad Beginning,” includes four stories in the series: “The Bad Beginning,” “The Reptile Room,” “The Wide Window,” and “The Austere Academy.”
