Fate

Feeling the proximity of death, the heroine calls her great-grandson to her and shares with him five main memories. Through this conversation, almost a century passes before the reader: childhood within harsh family and social frameworks, years of historical upheavals, the collapse of previous notions of life, and the necessity to seek support again. The narrative is not held together by external intrigue, but by the strength of lived experience. Each memory is connected to choice, loss, attachment to home, and the attempt to endure where circumstances are stronger than the individual.
