Child of the Era and Other Characters

At the center of the collection are stories and tales about a young employee of a Soviet research institute, who observes himself, his colleagues, and his own life without heroic poses and without complaints. His days are filled with work, conversations, scientific routine, sympathies, misunderstandings, and funny clashes of character. From these episodes, a story of a generation of urban intelligentsia unfolds, for whom science, friendship, and personal freedom are intertwined no less than everyday life and ideology. Zhitinsky leads the reader through recognizable Soviet everyday life and maintains a balance between humor, lyricism, and a light sadness.
