Poor People

Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821–1881) - a Russian writer, philosopher, and publicist; one of the most read authors in the world. His work influenced many thinkers of the 20th century, including Jean-Paul Sartre and Friedrich Nietzsche. Having gone through a difficult life path, he gifted the world many works, the distinctive feature of which can be described as an unbearably deep sorrow of the truly Russian soul.
In the first published novel of F. M. Dostoevsky "Poor People", the hero is depicted in a special way, who was very popular in the years when Dostoevsky just embarked on his writing path, this is the "little man". His troubles are insignificant against the backdrop of global catastrophes, but he tries to live each moment as fully as possible, despite the awkwardness of his situation. He cares for the unfortunate girl Varinka Dobroselova, trying with his literary attempts in letters to make her life less sad, as he does not have enough money to change her dependent position. His tragedy largely consists in the fact that he is so insignificant that he cannot help anyone, not even himself.
