The Captain's Daughter

The action of the work takes place during the uprising of Emelyan Pugachev. It tells the story of a young nobleman, Pyotr Grinyov, whose father sends him to Orenburg "to serve under the command" of his old friend. However, Pyotr ends up serving in the Belogorsk fortress in the Orenburg province, where the main events of the novel occur, including the famous duel scene, Pugachev's attack, brave service, and the main character's sincere love for the commandant's daughter. The narrative is told from the perspective of the already elderly landowner Pyotr Grinyov. His memoirs conceal the story of a noble young man who, as is well known, was bequeathed to "guard his honor from a young age."
