First Love

Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev (1818–1883) — a Russian realist writer, publicist, and translator, who earned recognition both at home and abroad. He was one of the first to study the «new man», and thanks to him, the term «nihilist» became widely used. He was a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences, an honorary doctor of Oxford University, and an honorary member of Moscow University. This edition presents three works by I. S. Turgenev: «Asya», «First Love», and «Bezhin Meadow». The first two stories are dedicated to the tragedy of unrequited love, which haunts the sorrowful beloved for many years, while the third tells of peasant boys gathered around a campfire to share terrifying stories about various evil spirits. In all of the writer's works, there is a recurring idea of depicting the inner world of a person and their sincere experiences, and the vividness of the narrative allows the reader to fully feel the life’s vicissitudes of many unique characters.
