Generations before you relied on harvesting resources from the ocean. But by the end of the 19th century, your fishing village in Northern Norway faced changes and new opportunities.
In the board game «Saltfjord» (Saltfjord), you must decide whether to expand your settlement with new buildings, send a boat to fish, engage in trade, or implement new technologies that ease daily life. How will you determine the fate of your village?
The action of the board game «Saltfjord» (Saltfjord) takes place in a Norwegian fishing village and is largely based on the dice placement mechanics from «Santa Maria», but otherwise, the game has been completely reworked and expanded with new elements.
To increase replayability, the game features many variable elements, such as special abilities and tiles for end results.
Over three rounds, players roll dice to activate buildings in their settlement. This provides resources and activates actions such as sending a fishing boat, advancing in various technological directions, fulfilling trade orders, or constructing new buildings.
On each player's game board, a grid is displayed. When you roll a die, you activate all buildings in the row or column corresponding to that die. By constructing a building in your settlement, each die may activate more buildings.
Technological tracks unlock special opportunities, such as upgrading the fishing boat. And fishing is an important part of daily life in «Saltfjord» (Saltfjord).
