Strike to the Heart

The collection consists of six stories, one of which takes place in Moscow in 1899. A new monetary reform is underway. Old banknotes are being exchanged for new ones, but during the disposal of the notes, a whole bag of counterfeits is accidentally discovered. It is known that the fakes came from a private bank, and there are suspicions that someone from its management is involved in the crime. An official investigation might scare away the criminals, so the case is taken over by Court Counselor Alexey Lykov. He embeds his subordinate Yuri Valevachev into the bank's staff, but the assignment turns out to be more dangerous than he thought…
