1978. In Voronezh, several high-profile crimes were committed one after another. First, on the outskirts of the city, a group of individuals attacked two men and beat them to death with pieces of iron pipes. A few days later, the same gang stabbed three men at the entrance of a research institute. Finally, unknown masked individuals fired at a crowd of spectators leaving a theater after a performance… The senselessness and brutality of the events outraged the public. The search for the bandits was entrusted to a group led by Major of Militia Alexander Devyatkin. Using fingerprints found on the pipe fragments, they managed to identify one of the murderers, a repeat offender from Sverdlovsk, and later his accomplices. Realizing that law enforcement was on their trail, the criminals decided to commit a new heinous crime unprecedented in its cruelty…
