War and Peace. Volume 1

The first volume of the epic novel 'War and Peace' describes the events of 1805, alternating between peaceful and military scenes. The author introduces the reader to the main characters and tells about their lives in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and the estate of Lysye Gory. Military actions in Austria and the Battle of Schengrab are depicted. The climax of the first volume was the Battle of Austerlitz, which ended in the complete defeat of the Russo-Austrian army and became known in history as the 'Battle of the Three Emperors': Napoleon I Bonaparte, Francis II, and Alexander I.
