Valentin Grigorievich Rasputin (1937–2015) – a Russian writer, publicist, and public figure. He was born in a small Siberian village of Atalanka, from where he moved to the district center of Ust-Uda to continue his studies in high school. These difficult years of life were described by Valentin Rasputin in his famous story "French Lessons." Semi-starvation, living with strangers, quarrels with local boys – for the main character of the story, as well as for the writer himself, all of this became a challenging trial. But human sympathy and help can save a person. The collection also includes the story "Live a Century – Love a Century," in which Valentin Rasputin touches on the theme of the relationship between man and nature, as well as growing up and responsibility.
