The very first story about Sherlock Holmes was published by 27-year-old doctor Arthur Conan Doyle only after several rejections — and for mere pennies! Back in 1887, no one could have imagined that the detective from Baker Street would become so beloved by readers that even when the author wanted to put a period at the end of the story, they would not allow it.

Dr. Mortimer from Grimpen appeals to Sherlock Holmes, whose patient, Sir Charles Baskerville, died under mysterious circumstances. Locals believe that a family curse is to blame, involving a phantom dog lurking for the Baskervilles on the moors. Now, a young heir arrives at the estate... Will Holmes manage to solve the crime before a new one occurs?

The book also includes the story "A Study in Scarlet." In it, readers are introduced to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson for the first time — and learn which case started the story of the world's most famous detective.
