America, the late 1980s. In her new school, Lamia White is no longer surprised by the sidelong glances from classmates and teachers. The girl has grown used to such reactions, as she wears a hijab. Elias Conley is the school star; he is handsome and witty. His favorite pastime is to mock those who are different from his friends. Elias's obsessive attention confuses Lamia.
