However, the young lovers have no idea that their happiness and lives are threatened by a danger far more terrifying than the treacherous Egyptian… Written under the impression of the famous painting by Karl Bryullov, the novel has also gained considerable popularity. The book has been repeatedly reissued, adapted for stage and screen, and today rightfully occupies a place among the most outstanding monuments of Victorian literature.
