Another Simpleton

Unemployed journalist Harry Barber is released from prison after being punished for a crime he didn't commit and tries to return to normal life. There is no money, no job, and at this moment he receives an offer to help stage the kidnapping of the wealthy industrialist Marlo's daughter. The plan seems profitable: the girl and her stepmother themselves conceived a fictitious crime to receive a large ransom. But the simple scam quickly becomes dangerous. The story combines detective, noir, and psychological tension, and the main conflict revolves around deception, greed, and the attempt not to become someone else's scapegoat.
