Stubborn Berta

A red hen named Berta had a dream: with all her heart, she wanted to become a mother. Every night, Berta laid a wonderful brown speckled egg and carefully sat on it, warming it with her body heat. But, as luck would have it, every morning the farmer would come to the henhouse and take her treasure away.

One beautiful morning, Berta decided that she would no longer tolerate this situation. She promised herself that next time, no matter what, she would not part with her egg and would sit on it until the end. For this, she had to embark on a dangerous journey: she rode in an old farm van and a huge truck, visited a sorting facility and a supermarket, everywhere following her dear brown speckled egg and hatching it as much as possible along the way to the very store shelf.

Thanks to her determination and belief in her own rightness, Berta ultimately fulfilled her dream – to the surprise of customers, sellers, and the store manager. The book tells the story of the strongest feeling – maternal love – in a light, accessible, and engaging form for children, and the ending will touch both children and adults to tears.
