Judas Iscariot

Leonid Andreyev (1871—1919) — a Russian writer and playwright of the Silver Age, whose works raise eternal questions about the meaning of life, the relationship between good and evil, truth and error, the conscious and the unconscious in humans.
In the story «Judas Iscariot», he used the gospel plot about the betrayal of Jesus Christ by his apostle Judas for 30 pieces of silver. Exploring the character, the author portrays Judas as a complex person, whose motives — are not only selfishness but also the desire to test whether the faith of the disciples and Christ himself is strong enough. The book also includes the story «The Yoke of War» and the tales «The Rules of Good» and «SOS».
