The Golden Calf

«The Golden Calf» — a continuation of the adventures of the great con artist Ostap Bender. After the fiasco with the chairs, he, along with his new accomplices — Shura Balahonov and Mikhail Panikovsky — goes to the city of Chernomorsk to obtain money from an outwardly unremarkable clerk, who is, in fact, an underground Soviet millionaire Koreiko. A vivid satire on the lifestyle and morals of the 1930s, the author's signature humor, and charismatic characters of the novel immediately appealed to all readers who were outraged by the ending of «The Twelve Chairs».
