In the last months of the civil war in Spain, the republican troops retreat to the French border. Among the prisoners sentenced to execution is Rafael Sanchez Masas — the founder and ideologist of the Falange, one of the culprits of this fratricidal conflict. Sanchez Masas miraculously escapes death: an unnamed republican decides to spare him. A young journalist trying to piece together the story of Masas's rescue attempts to understand the mysterious fates of its participants. But an unexpected discovery changes the course of his search: the true meaning of the story turns out to be something you least expect.
