1904. In Moscow, titular advisor Vladislav Sergeyevich Shchelkunov goes missing. The search is entrusted to the investigator for particularly important cases, Ivan Volovtsov. According to witnesses, recently the victim had been very dissatisfied with something. In Shchelkunov's office, everything is turned upside down – it is clear that something was being searched for. The local janitor noted that on the day of the titular advisor's disappearance, an unfamiliar gentleman "approximately fifty years old" left their house. Perhaps this was the robber or murderer… Suddenly, news arrives that in the Moscow region, the body of an unknown man with a distinctive feature of a spicy nature has been found. Could something similar have been on Shchelkunov's body?
