Wicked: Childhood

How did Elphaba live before entering Shiz University? She is destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and fate gives her signs from birth. The most obvious – her green skin. Less noticeable, but more important – her intelligence, cunning… and readiness to transgress moral norms if she needs to survive or achieve something.

Her childhood passes with a frivolous mother and a pious father. Her sister is disabled, her brother is a bully whose pranks gradually turn into crimes. Elphaba first encounters the oppression of Animals and befriends a phantom monkey. She awakens her power for the first time and tries to find a friend who could save her from piercing loneliness. But everything she does leads her to the University of Shiz, where she awaits a meeting with a radiant creature named Glinda…
