Narrow Gates. Isabelle. Pastoral Symphony

The collection includes three works by André Gide, united by the theme of moral choice and the inner conflict of the individual, which will allow the reader to better understand the talent of one of the main connoisseurs of the human soul in French literature.
"Narrow Gates" — is largely an autobiographical story that tells the tale of Jérôme and Alice — cousins in love with each other, but forced to renounce their feelings in favor of morality and virtue.
"Isabelle" — is a story not so much about love as about the awakening of maturity, in which the love story becomes a theme for the author's reflections. Gérard's illusions that a trip to the estate of a famous scholar promises him a romantic adventure are shattered by the harsh reality when he becomes a witness to a drama that unfolds in the Flot family.
"Pastoral Symphony" — is a story of forbidden love between a pastor and a blind orphan whom he takes in and saves from poverty, which turns into tragedy when compassion turns into passion, and piety into self-deception.
