The new, revised and expanded edition of the book by Y.L. Barskov (1863-1937) "Correspondence of Moscow Freemasons" is due to a number of reasons. Almost immediately after the publication of the book in 1915, both Barskov himself and other researchers,... among whom should be named his students, N.P. Kiselev and G.V. Vernadsky, noticed several shortcomings in the released edition. These include incorrect identification of certain individuals, incorrect dating of an entire set of letters, misreading, typos, etc. Y.L. Barskov himself, in his copy of the printed edition, which is currently stored in the reading room of the Manuscripts Department of the Russian State Library, began to make corrections to his book, clearly in hopes of a new edition. In addition to Barskov's corrections and comments from other researchers, this edition has been supplemented with references to new studies, indications of the current location of documents, as well as letters from Russian Freemasons that are part of the document complex published by Barskov but unknown to him.
