Eugene Onegin

The novel by Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin "Eugene Onegin" is one of the most significant works of Russian literature. For two centuries, it has been illustrated by many artists, and a special place among them is occupied by Nikolai Vasilyevich Kuzmin,... whose illustrations, made, according to the artist himself, in the "tempo" of Pushkin's drawings, were created specifically for the edition of the novel timed to the centenary of A.S. Pushkin's death. In 1937, they were awarded the Golden Medal at the World Exhibition in Paris.

Kuzmin's illustrations emphasize the atmosphere of the novel and create a sense of authenticity of the era. The artist paid great attention to the details of costumes, interiors, and landscapes, recreating the historical color of Pushkin's time.

Notes and comments were composed by the outstanding Pushkin scholar Boris Tomashevsky. They help the reader delve deeper into the world of Pushkin's novel, see its multilayered nature and richness of artistic solutions, and have become an important tool for studying and understanding "Eugene Onegin."
