Essays on the Bursa

What is a bursa? In the first half of the 17th century, a Special Hostel was established at the Kiev Brotherhood School for needy students. Later, the name bursa was applied to all hostels at spiritual educational institutions, especially at seminaries.

The life and customs of one such institution – Alexander Nevsky – were described by Pomyalovsky in his work. The story lacks a main character and a connected plot. It consists of separate stories from the lives of the students. The author portrayed himself as one of the students, a bursa student nicknamed Karas.
