The Girl from the Third Car

Stenographer Miss Lauren Stoughton travels every day to Landerin on the same train, in the third car and the third compartment, at the request of her employer.
She brings back to the city a sealed folder, which she is given in... the office in the evening. Lauren has no idea what is in this folder, and even more so, she does not suspect that at exactly 8:53 am, she is often seen from the window of an oncoming train by Captain Daniel de Mole. One day, the girl disappears... Not seeing her on the train at the usual time, de Mole decides to find the missing person.
However, neither he nor, naturally, Miss Stoughton can imagine what kind of detective story their curiosity and the red folder stolen by an unknown robber will lead them into.
