Far from the Madding Crowd

Thomas Hardy (1840–1928) is referred to as the last writer of the Victorian era. He gained fame through a series of works created between 1872 and 1895, known as character and milieu novels. The novel "Far from the Madding Crowd" (1874) received wide recognition. Proud, independent Bathsheba Everdene, a young mistress of a large estate, dreams of love. There are several potential suitors, but in each admirer, the wealthy heiress finds a flaw — one is too respectable, another is too old and boring... But soon a dashing handsome officer arrives in the quiet Victorian province, bringing crime, passion, and mystery to the quiet corner. This story has been adapted for the screen several times.
