At the corporate dinner, after several gin and tonics, journalist Agnes gets into an argument with the editor-in-chief, who offers her a deal — he will pay her two years' salary if she writes a biography of Luis Foret, a famous author whose books sell in huge numbers, but whom no one has ever seen in person.
Interest in Foret rises when he announces the end of his creative activity and his final departure from the literary world. Agnes has no choice but to take on the job, as due to a silly quarrel with her boss, she may be left without work.
