Empress Alexandra Feodorovna entrusted Prime Minister Stolypin with an unusual task. Two years ago, a miraculous icon of the Kazan Mother of God was stolen from a women's monastery in Kazan. The police found the thieves, but they could not locate the relic itself. Rumors circulated in society that the icon was intact and hidden somewhere.
