My name is Alanna of Trebond. I am a page at the court of His Majesty King Roald. And I have a secret — I am actually a girl.
 
In a world where girls are forbidden to become warriors, I dream... of one thing — to become a knight. My twin brother Tom and I switched places: he went to study magic, and I, disguised as a boy, went to the palace.
 
I knew it would be difficult. But I didn’t know how difficult. Studies, duels, combat training, etiquette — every day I fight not only for the right to hold a sword but also for the right to remain myself. I am learning to manage my fears, anger, and heart. I am learning to recognize where a friend is and where an enemy is. And the hardest part — keeping my secret when there are so many eyes around.
 
But these trials, sent by the gods, are only the beginning of a great journey. Thus, the legend of Alanna of Trebond is born.
