In the distant future, 30,000 years from our time, on the planet Ledopad, in its only city Neverness, there exists the Order of Mystical Mathematicians, divided into numerous factions, one of which is – the pilots. These brave individuals, who maintain neural connections with their ships, travel across the Universe. Sometimes they enter real space, sometimes – they substitute it with the space of mathematical sets, allowing them to traverse vast distances. Each time this is a terrible risk, as mathematical space is treacherous and holds many threats – it has happened many times that ships lost in the tree of probabilities vanished without a trace.
