Based on real events. 1988. An emergency occurred at the Far East Higher School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. One of the students, a Tuvan by nationality, was caught in a romantic relationship with a local girl from Yakutia. According to the customs of these peoples, a child born to parents of different nationalities is considered illegitimate. Another student of the same school, Viktor Voronov, is called to help his classmate settle the relationship with the resentful relatives of the Yakut girl. During the heated disputes, it turns out that unknown individuals have kidnapped the baby and are demanding a ransom. In a conversation with the young mother, Voronov realizes that she is hiding something. But what confuses the novice detective the most are the strange attributes left by the kidnappers at the crime scene… Nostalgia for times that have already become history.
