The early fifties. In a sanatorium near Kislovodsk, a blind saxophonist, Prokhor Glukhov, dies on stage during a performance. Major Pavel Zverev, the head of the operational department from Pskov, who is here on vacation, suspects that it is murder.... He takes charge of the local detectives and begins an investigation. It turns out that the cause of Glukhov's death was a mouthpiece of the saxophone smeared with poison.
