Pollyanna

The novel by American writer Eleanor Porter (1868–1920) about the girl Pollyanna, who invented the "glad game," was first published in 1913. The "glad game" instantly captured all of America, and then Europe. Pollyanna is an eleven-year-old girl. Her mother died early, and she was raised by her father, a clergyman, and ladies from the charity committee. She never had her own beautiful things, and food was often scarce and unappetizing. However, in all her misfortunes and troubles, she learned to find joy and enjoy sharing it with those around her. Illustrations by N. Demidova. For middle school age.
