1895. On the night of May first, a drama unfolded at the noble maidens' institute: two young doctors were shot, and along with them, one of the young students was found – poisoned. Poison is the weapon of women, as is well known, and all evidence points to the fact that such a brutal murder was indeed committed by a fragile and pampered young lady… The case is entrusted to Petersburg detective Stepan Egorovich Koshkin, and his friend and neighbor, the eccentric chemist Vorobyov, quite knowledgeable in the most advanced forensics, volunteered as a helper.
