1905, the Russo-Japanese War is coming to an end, and a revolution is brewing in Russia. Japanese intelligence has trained agents from captured Poles and returned them home along with other prisoners of war. The Department of Police has been... informed about this. Lykov, along with the gendarmes, is tasked with identifying and arresting the spies. During the investigation, he learns about a group of former soldiers who have united to fight against Tsarism. Their leader is private Nikolai Kunitsyn, who was given the nickname Kolya-kun while in captivity. A charismatic figure, fearless, and having seen a lot, he has devised his own model of a state where peasants will rule.
