Katherine O'Connor, a smart and determined girl, could not come to terms with how adversely Dr. Wynn Jeffries' method, outlined in the controversial book "The Free Child," was affecting the upbringing of her nieces, of which her sister Zelda was... absolutely delighted. Katherine passionately expressed her point of view to the author when she unexpectedly met him in a French café, where she was drafting another Christmas letter. Her "performance" ended in a scandal, and Miss O'Connor, although she believed she was right, regretted her impatience because she liked Jeffries very much, and on top of that, her neighbor informed her that she had "seen the future" in which Katherine and Wynn were in love with each other...
