Investigation in Riga

The action of the novel takes place in 1898. Lykov's friend, the Livonian Jaan Titus, went to Riga for the funeral of his older brother Jazeps. He discovered that his brother had been murdered. The police do not want to search for the criminals. Jazeps Titus was a thief and a trader; he got what he deserved… When Jaan begins his own investigation, he is advised to leave the city. Upon learning this, the indignant Lykov arrives in Riga to help his comrade. They start looking for the murderers on their own. During the investigation, the friends come across a spy network and encounter numerous thugs from the Riga suburbs. In Riga, there is a German dominance, and the Russian detectives have a hard time. The outbreak of gang wars further complicates the search…
