Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky (1893-1930) was born in the village of Bagdadi, near the city of Kutaisi, in a impoverished noble family. In 1902, after his father's death, Mayakovsky moved to Moscow with his mother and sisters. This had a significant...
impact on the future poet. Here, as he grew older, he met student revolutionaries and became actively involved in revolutionary activities. Mayakovsky did not come to poetry right away - in 1911 he enrolled in the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, from which he was expelled three years later for public performances. Mayakovsky's poems were first published in 1912 in the collection of futurist poets "A Slap in the Face of Public Taste".
Mayakovsky was a very bright and charismatic personality, his love of freedom and originality were reflected in his work. The poet established his own laws of versification, created his own images and metaphors, rhymes, rhythm and meter of the poem, invented new words (giraffka, зверики, drigonozhestvo, ispavlinitsya, etc.) and even recorded his poems in a special way - not in columns, but in a "staircase". The themes of Mayakovsky's poetry are diverse: they include lyrical poems, satire, and civil lyricism. The poet considered creativity for children no less important: "My latest passion is children's literature. We need to give children new representations and new concepts of the surrounding things".
Mayakovsky captivates his young readers from the very first lines - such bright and remarkable images he creates in his works for children. These are both instructive stories ("What is good and what is bad?", "The Story of Vlas, the lazybones and slacker") and tales of distant lands ("This little book of mine is about seas and a lighthouse"), an unusual journey through a zoo ("Every page is an elephant or a lioness"), and a guide to professions ("What to be?"), as well as an exciting description of how toys are made and how many people of different professions are involved in this ("Fire Horse"). Most of Mayakovsky's children's books were illustrated by himself.
