April 1980. One day, Major Vadim Shalamov of the KGB suddenly disappears, much to everyone's surprise. On the weekend, the Shalamovs were heading to their summer house, after which they were not seen again. On Monday, neither the major nor... his wife showed up for work, and their four-year-old daughter didn't go to preschool. Neighbors and acquaintances have no explanation. Shortly before this, the operative had participated in an operation to uncover a spy in the field of radio technical intelligence. Perhaps this is somehow related to his disappearance… Shalamov has been declared wanted nationwide. The search is being conducted by Major Alexey Kostrov. He believes he has stumbled upon a lead regarding his missing colleague. However, a series of subsequent events forces Kostrov to change the direction of his search…
