Much has changed in the Malazan Empire.
The village of Silver Lake has recovered from the chaos brought by the Teblor warriors, and the northern Teblor tribes no longer invade the Southern lands. One of the warriors who once attacked the... village, the giant Karsa Orlong, is now considered a god by the Teblor, though he lives in distant Darujhistan, but it seems this god does not wish to participate in the life of his tribesmen. In the mountains where the Teblor live, a new military leader has emerged, and he is ready to challenge Karsa Orlong - even if it means fighting his way through the lands of the Malazan Empire with bloodshed. And this means that new upheavals are coming, compounded by the fact that a great melting of ice is beginning in the north, a wall of water is moving from there, and the impending terrible flood could destroy everyone.
